- Climate neutral Linde Gas customer portal
Our Linde Gas customer portal is climate neutral - another step towards sustainability
We neutralize the CO2 footprint of our website with Ryte
Why a climate neutral internet? Is it really necessary? We say quite clearly: Yes!
Websites and the IT sector account for a large share of global CO2 emissions. Even though digitalization is on everyone's lips and it's hard to imagine working and private life without the internet, we don't want to forget that the internet and its supporting systems have a large share in global greenhouse gas emissions. As a sustainable and environmentally oriented company, we have therefore set ourselves the goal of improving your and our carbon footprint with the Linde Gas customer portal.
Servers and data centers run around the clock, so using the internet generates CO2 emissions with every click. Particularly in times of pandemic, the energy demand of the internet continues to increase. This results in higher emissions. For example; a corporate website also causes emissions through:
- The energy consumed by the user's device
- Energy generated by the transmission of data
- Energy generated by hosting the website in a data center
To counteract this, companies can use a climate-neutral website.
We put our customer portal to the test
On the way to carbon neutrality, we put Linde websites to the test with our partner Ryte. As part of the "Website Carbon Neutral" program, the CO2 emissions of Linde websites are estimated based on various parameters, thus determining the CO2 footprint.
Websites emit carbon dioxide primarily through the energy they consume. Energy is consumed by:
- The servers on which the website is hosted
- The network over which the data is sent
- The device on which users view the website
Based on these factors, Ryte calculates the carbon footprint of the website. In addition to blanket assumptions from the power consumption of the technical infrastructure, the following factors are taken into account:
- The data volume of the individual pages of linde-gas.nl
- The traffic of the website
Based on this information, Ryte calculates how much energy linde-gas.nl consumes in total and how much carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere as a result.
What exactly is behind the "Website Carbon Neutral" certification and which CO2 emissions are neutralized?
The seal implies that as a Ryte customer you have offset the measured CO2 footprint of the website by participating in a "Verified Carbon Standard (VCS)" project. In our case, offsetting CO2 emissions is done through the Bamboo for Deforestation-Free Products project. This carbon offset project is located in eastern Nicaragua. This project plants native species of giant bamboo, one of the most efficient biological means to combat climate change. In addition, the deforestation of 1,000 hectares of old-growth forest is prevented by designating it as a protected zone, thus preventing the release of CO2. The calculation for the website's carbon footprint was developed by Ryte Data Scientists together with ClimatePartner and is based on a number of data points to determine the carbon footprint of linde-gas.nl, the so-called "Ryte Website Carbon KPI".
Who does the climate protection project work with?
ClimatePartner, a company committed to improving the living conditions of people, animals and the biosphere by implementing ambitious climate protection measures every day - worldwide. ClimatePartner's carbon offset projects engage people, promote local development and protect the environment in the process.
