Gases for TIG welding of stainless steel

Argon 4.6

Standard shielding gas for TIG welding of all weldable metals, including stainless steel. Also suitable for plasma welding. The gas gives, in addition to good protection, an easily ignitable arc and has a favorable influence on the arc characteristics.

Argon 5.0

Standard shielding gas for TIG welding of all weldable metals, including stainless steel. Also suitable for plasma welding. The gas gives good protection and has a favorable influence on the arc characteristics and an easily ignitable arc. Due to its higher purity than argon 4.6, it is also suitable for welding titanium, tantalum and zirconium.

Argon/hydrogen 95/5

This argon/hydrogen mixture is mostly used for TIG welding, plasma welding and plasma cutting of austenitic stainless steels. The addition of hydrogen increases the arc voltage as well as the arc energy, more than with Ar/H2 98/2. As a result, the feed rate can be increased.

Argon/hydrogen 98/2

Also for TIG welding, plasma welding and plasma cutting of austenitic stainless steels. The addition of hydrogen increases the arc voltage, as well as the arc energy. The progression speed can be increased considerably, compared to argon as a shielding gas.

Heligon 15

Specially developed for the TIG welding of heat-conducting materials. The helium addition provides higher arc energy and thus better burn-in and higher productivity.

Heligon 25

Specially developed for the TIG welding of heat-conducting materials. The helium addition provides higher arc energy and thus better burn-in and higher productivity.

Mison Argon

Provides good protection around the arc and the weld pool. Provides, through the addition of NO, a stable arc characteristic. The NO also has an ozone reducing effect.

Gases for MIG/MAG welding of stainless steel

Carbon dioxide 2.7

Carbon dioxide, as a shielding gas in gas arc welding, results in a wide burn-in, while in addition, the risk of porosity in the weld due to contamination of the material is significantly reduced. With the exception of the use of some cored welding wires, carbon dioxide is not suitable for welding at high amperages, as large, irregular droplets are produced. Due to the oxidizing nature of this gas, a welding wire with sufficient deoxidizing agents will need to be used.

Mison 20

For the MAG welding of stainless steel with filled wire. Good wetting in the weld pool in the short-circuit area. Maximum security against porosity in the spray arc area. Excellent for welding root passes and in those applications, where a good, wide penetration is required. The gas component NO provides a more stable arc and limits the ozone concentration in the arc area.

Protegon 20

For MAG welding of stainless steel with a rutile-filled wire. Maximum security against porosity in the spray arc area. Excellent for welding root seams and in those applications, where a good, wide burn-in is required.

Protinox

Protinox is used in manual and automatic MAG welding of most stainless steels. This mixture is suitable for all MAG welding methods, such as short-circuit arc, and spray arc, as well as pulsed arc. This balanced three-component mixture consists of argon, carbon dioxide and a small amount of hydrogen. This guarantees an even, fine material transfer. The discoloration of the welding material is greatly reduced by the presence of the reducing hydrogen. The charring of the welding material due to the carbon dioxide addition is very low, while the loss of alloying constituents from the filler metal is nil. The welded joints have excellent X-ray density.

Protinox-S

Protinox-S is a new, extremely carefully formulated mixing gas that enables the MAG welding of stainless steel at high speeds while meeting the highest quality requirements. Furthermore, it has the same applications as Protinox.

Protix RVS

Protix RVS is the universal shielding gas for the MAG welding of high-alloy steel (stainless steel). The low percentage of carbon dioxide ensures a stable arc, good penetration and good fusion of both welding edges.
