Wastewater incineration
Some wastewater streams cannot be treated using biological treatment techniques because they contain substances that can hardly or very slowly be biologically degraded or are toxic to bacteria
Such wastewater streams are treated in special wastewater incineration plants. In the combustion chamber, firing usually takes place via natural gas-fired overhead burners, in which the wastewater to be treated is injected and vaporized. At temperatures of more than 1000 °C, the organic components burn off, while the salts they contain evaporate and condense on the relatively cold combustion chamber walls, where they can be collected on the bottom.
Increases in the production of chemicals also lead to the increased generation of problematic wastewater, which increases the pressure for capacity expansion (larger combustion chamber, boiler and flue gas cleaning). This can be remedied by increasing the capacity of existing plants through the addition of oxygen. Depending on the task, the following advantages result:
- Less gas consumption
- Increase in capacity
- Reduction of flue gas volume
